Exclusively through the Microsoft Store — we don't offer a direct .exe download. Installing, updating, and (once available) purchasing Pro all happen through the Store, which also handles license verification and Store-based refunds.

No. Recording and transcription are 100% local — your audio files and transcripts are processed and stored on your computer with whisper.cpp and are never uploaded automatically.

Not automatically. Your transcripts stay on your computer. If you want AI-generated study notes, StashWhisper's one-click Smart Prompt Export creates a .txt file for you to upload yourself to an AI chat service of your choice (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other). That step is entirely optional, happens outside the app, and is the only way to get AI-generated notes — StashWhisper does not include its own note-generating AI model.

One click exports a ready-made prompt — your transcript, pre-formatted — as a .txt file. You upload that file to the AI chat service you already use, copy its response, and paste it back into StashWhisper's "AI Study Notes" tab to save it with your session.

Windows 10 or 11 with at least 8 GB of RAM. This isn't just a suggestion: below roughly 7.5 GB of usable RAM, the app can still be installed, but live transcription — its core function — stays disabled. Actual speed can still vary with your CPU, available memory, and recording length.

You can use the full StashWhisper workflow for 3 complete sessions before purchasing a Pro license. No credit card is required for the free trial.

Yes, for recording and transcription — both run entirely offline. An internet connection is only needed for downloading updates, purchasing/activating a license, or the optional step of uploading an exported prompt to an AI chat service.

Pro purchases are not yet available — the in-app "Pro" button currently shows "Coming Soon." Once purchasing goes live, it will run through the Microsoft Store (the same account you used to install StashWhisper). See our Terms of Service and Refund Policy for how Store purchases and refunds work.

No. Speech recognition can make mistakes, especially with background noise, accents, overlapping speakers, technical terminology, or low-quality recordings. Notes you get back from a third-party AI service should also be reviewed before you rely on them.

StashWhisper provides recording functionality, but you are responsible for complying with applicable recording, privacy, copyright, school, workplace, and consent requirements. Make sure you have the necessary permission before recording other people.
